Shabba targets Nedbank cup boost

Siphiwe Tshabalala says he and his Kaizer Chiefs team-mates will be looking to make amends for the midweek league defeat when they shift attention to the defence of their Nedbank Cup trophy on Saturday.

Amakhosi slumped to a shock 1-0 home defeat to Mpumalanga Black Aces on Wednesday night and as a result surrendered top spot to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Although the defeat was damaging to Amakhosi’s league defence Stuart Baxter’s men remain very much in title contention.

“It is not a train smash and is no reason to panic. We just have to go back to the training ground and rectify our mistakes. Also work on the things that we did not do regarding creating chances and finishing them.”

Chiefs face SuperSport United in a Nedbank Cup semi-final on Saturday and the Bafana Bafana international expects another tough clash.

He said: “We have a Nedbank Cup match against Supersport and that is what we are now looking forward to. It will be a tough game. We all know that cup games are unpredictable and it is a do or die situation. Everyone wants to do well and we also want to do the same. “

The side from Naturena will be taking on a Pretoria based side for the second time in as many weeks. Chiefs lost to Mamelodi Sundowns in a PSL fixture and now have to defend their Nedbank Cup title against United.

“It does not really matter which team we get to play because every team that plays for silverware makes sure to give their ultimate best. We will meet United to fight for the Nedbank Cup,” said Shabba.
