2010 goal a lifetime memory
11 June 2010 Bafana Bafana featured in a historic match when they officially played the opening game of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
Siphiwe Tshabalala scored the first goal of the tournament which lives on in our memories. Shabba says scoring the goal is a memory he will forever cherish.
“It was a great goal because it happened in an event that was a first in Africa and maybe the last. It is special in many ways to different people in South Africa, Africa and the world in general. The experience is one that is next to none. I will cherish the moment forever.”
The South African national team has a chance of participating in yet another World Cup as they prepare for the African Cup of Nations. They play Gambia on Saturday in their first qualifier. If they win the tournament they will automatically qualify for the next edition of the world tournament in Russia 2018.
