Shabba: It’s about the team
Siphiwe Tshabalala insists he derives as much satisfaction from creating goals for his team-mates as he does from scoring.
The Kaizer Chiefs playmaker is firmly believes that the team is bigger than the individual and is therefore happy to sacrifice personal glory for the good of the team.
Quite clearly Shabba’s value is measured by his overall contributions to the cause, not just goals. Last season the Bafana Bafana star weighed in with 18 assists in all competitions.
“As I prepare for the new season I always keep in mind the fact that it is not always about me scoring the goals and taking the glory. I am happy to help my team mates score goals. At the end of the day we are all working towards the same objective,” he said.
“I think that even the greatest players in the world have been praised for providing balls that create goal scoring opportunities. Xabi Alonso, Xavi Hernandez, Andries Eniesta, all assist in the creation of goals and they are famous for it.
“In the upcoming season I will be look to do the same. Hopefully I will help the team avoid a repeat of last season where we finished without a trophy. Assisting is as good as scoring,” concluded Shabba.
