Shabba keen on final push to save title
Siphiwe Tshabalala views the game in hand against Free State Stars as Kaizer Chiefs’ chance to get one hand back on their Absa Premiership title.
Chiefs must overcome a five-point deficit to stand a chance of deposing Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the table on the final day of the season.
Shabba holds out hope for a few more twists and turns in the race and believes Amakhosi have a good chance of retaining their title.
“Look, the league is far from over and it is not as it looks to most people. We all know that football is unpredictable, today we are looking to catch up and tomorrow it might be a different story,” Shabba said.
Kaizer Chiefs fell further behind in the title race when they drew against Bidvest Wits a week ago. Sundowns will be crowned champions by two points if the two rivals win their remaining matches.
Tshabalala warned Sundowns that they would be sorely mistaken to think that they have the title wrapped up, despite their favourable position.
“We are a game behind Sundowns yes. But we know that we have to work hard and focus on our own game to ensure that we acquire the points we need. The log leaders may think that they have won it, but that would be a big mistake,” Tshabalala added.
“Personally I think we are capable of doing what we have to do and I aim to help the team in the best way I can. I have done well in the season and still looking to get a few more goals before we close shop.
“I am happy with how far we have made it and the pressure that we face now is welcomed. We will strive for the wins.”
