Shabba: “We are flying high”
Siphiwe Tshabalala has spoken of his delight at being part of a Kaizer Chiefs FC side on a nine-match winning streak.
Chiefs tightened their grip on ABSA Premiership top spot with a 1-0 win over SuperSport United on Wednesday to stretch their lead to 11 points.
“So far we are enjoying our football and it feels great to be winning,” Tshabalala said. “This puts us in a good position and it feels great to be in the top 8.
“Like I have mentioned before, it is hard to get to the top but even harder to stay there. So we are trying by all means to maintain the good standard of play and hopefully we keep going.”
‘Shabba’ credits team spirit in the Amakhosi camp for the excellent run of form. The Chiefs playmaker is also excited by the additions to the squad during the January transfer window. While Kaizer Motaung Junior has called time of his career, the champions bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Katlego Mphela and George Maluleka.
“The credit must go to everyone in the team and who supports us. So the players, coaching staff, supporters and everyone involved. The spirit in the team is high and we are motivated.
“Another factor that will help us get the consistency going are the player additions to the team. George Maluleka is a good player and surely adds depth in the midfield. As for Katlego Mphela we know he is a quality player and it will be good to play with him. I have played with Mphela in the national team and it won’t be any different here.
“I also just want to mention that it was sad to see Kaizer Junior retire. He is a true professional, humble and supportive person. He played his part and was one of the players that helped me settle in my early days at the club. But good luck to him and I wish him the best.”
